Adopt a Cove Program

After realizing that lifeguard towers at Southern California beaches did not have Automated External Defibrillators for Sudden Cardiac Arrest or bleeding control supplies such as tourniquets, wound packing gauze, and bandages for major bleeding; the Med Tac Team decided to help provide gear and supplies. The program allows individual donors to donate the funds for an AED, Stop the Bleed Kits, and an all weather case so that the gear and supplies can be placed at or next to the lifeguard towers at certain beaches. The Med Tac Team has been working with the local lifeguards so that the AEDs that are purchased standardized with the professional first responders.

The Med Tac Team began coordinating its efforts with OC Lifeguards who cover a number of the beaches from Dana Point to North Laguna Beach California. We began by providing tourniquets for their towers. The Three Arch Bay community is one of the coves being served as Charlie Denham, lives there and is the co-founder of the Med Tac Lifeguard Surf Program with Preston Head III. The team will be working with local sponsors and local city groups to address the needs for the state park and city beaches.

A Boy Scout Team from Newport Beach and San Juan Capistrano pursuing their Entrepreneurship Merit Badge developed signage for the AED and Bleeding Control gear and supplies in what we call Med Tac Care Cases. The Med Tac Team will be working with local beach community associations to enlist them in addressing the needs of their beaches. In winter the lifeguard towers are removed, therefore we typically seek to have the gear and supplies fixed to a very visible location.
